Denton's centerpiece is a lovely downtown area, and its signature is a restored courthouse. Situated in the middle of a picturesque town square and distinguished by an impressive clock tower, the limestone building was constructed in 1896 and refurbished to its original glory in 1987. The courthouse, open to the public, also includes a museum that charts area history. Denton's downtown district includes Hickory, Locust, Oak, and Elm Streets, all of which are lined with antique and specialty shops, bed and breakfasts, clubs, and restaurants serving everything from Texas barbecue to spicy south-of-the border specialties. The beautiful Oak-Hickory Historic District, in particular, features stately Victorian homes and quaint cottages bearing intricate architectural detail.

The City of Lewisville manages Lake Park on the south shore of the lake: picnic area, RV and tent camping, pavilion, 24-hour fishing barge, swimming beach and excellent public facilities. Marinas, boat rentals, launch ramps and angler's supplies are also available. Fishing on Lewisville Lake includes large-mouth bass, crappie, catfish, white bass and spectacular hybrid white/striped bass. Swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, sail boarding, camping, biking and picnicking are all part of what makes the lake so much fun.

Since 1997, this huge stadium with an oval track 1.5 miles in circumference and more than 150,000 seats in the Grandstand alone has provided racing lovers with all the thrills they could hope for. This is the second largest racing venue in the United States, behind the Indianapolis 500 Speedway. Events at Texas Motor Speedway include major NASCAR races, car shows and the Thursday Night Stampede, a weekly showcase of local racers. Speedway World offers souvenirs as well as tours of the speedway.
